Chiggy’s Touch: Putting The Bounce In My Curls

June 29, 2009 12 Comments

People constantly stop me on the street ask me what kind of hair I use or compliment me. I tell them that a) its natural and b) thank you. My hair in 2008 compared to my hair in 2009 has made leaps and bounds. I’m talking deep-fried ends, mad frizzies and this orange tone on the ends that I could not seem to get rid of. My saving grace came one day when I was googling curly hairstyles. I was determined to switch up my look, from the wild and wavy to a curly sophisticate. I came across a salon in the Yorkville (posh) area of downtown Toronto called Chiggy’s Touch. Not only did that name give me the sniggles (snicker giggle) but also it caught my attention, enough for me to make an appointment. I don’t think those ladies were ready for the bird’s nest that I called my hair that day. After 3 hours I came out looking like homegirl in the Venus commercials…. you know which one!!! (Sad I couldn’t find a picture of her)

What’s so great about Chiggy is that they cater to everyone, when I say everyone I mean EVERYONE. They specialize, in haircuts and color, they are deemed the curly hair experts, and they provide hair care for women of color not to mention they hook up flawless weaves & extensions.

As promised from like months ago, in my last hair post, I present to you a glimpse inside of Chiggy’s Touch:

  1. Hi there,

Which product line did they choose to use on your gorgeous curls?

      Hey Kinky Rhonnie!
I’m actually working on a post at this moment on my hair product picks…Stay tuned, it should be out within an hour or so.

  2. Rosie says:

you’re hair looks great but the salon is not accessible to me. i’ll be waiting for the next post with products. Miss Jessies is the best but i just finished my bottle and looking for something just as good but not as expensive.

  3. Tiff says:

I was just curious about the price range you’re looking at. I’m familiar with yorkville AND their prices. I’m looking to get a completely different look – cut, style and colour.

Can you ballpark the price you paid for your do? (which looks fab by the way)

    Thanks,

    Tiff

      Hey Tiff!
Your best bet is to call the salon directly..they often offer new clients deals. They charge according to the length of your hair. I know when I first went to see them I had really long DAMAGED hair and orange tips :: shudders :: I spent a total of almost $300 (hair products, extra color, tip etc) :(
But now that I’m all cleaned up and am knowledgeable on how to maintain my magnificent tresses I pay approx $150 b4 tip and I visit 2-3 times a year.
The $150 in my opinion is worth it because I get education advice tips, top of the line products are used on my hair and the stylists know their stuff!
I used to pay $50-$70 for avg blk salon to trim and press my hair..spend all this money on hair products when I didnt need to.
Although $150 may seem like a lot to dish out, the end results is that you have healthier hair and you end up cutting down on hair product costs because there is not much maintenance to natural hair.
Def consider the investment and if you do schedule an appt, hit me back and let me know how your experience went :)

      • Tiff says:

$150 seems about right. That’s around what I pay right now, but I have been getting the same cut for the past 5 years. And I don’t really trust my current stylist to give me something fresh.

I actually heard about Chiggys Touch through an event I went to last week called “Go Fro.” A info sesh on maintaining your natural locks.

I will definitely let you know. I’ll probably go down in Augus – before and after pics and everything!

        Thanks!

  4. Nicole says:

I have been there before but for weaves. It’s time I cut off my relaxed ends and be 100% natural. Who is your stylist?

  5. Nicole says:

Okay I’ve taken a second look…Kim is your stylist. I was considering booking with her for my cut.

  6. Nicole says:

So I went in for my BC and am very pleased with the results. It’s short of course but I love the texture. Shocked my hair is soft with just “shampoo”, conditoner and leave in. Im used to lathering products on. I have to get used to not touching my hair so it won’t frizz.
Kim is very knowledgable and gave step by step info on what to do. She gave a cut that really suited my face.
    I love it.
I went to Honeyfig after,I hope I don’t turn into a natural hair product junkie esp. since it’s expensive.
Looking for a good moisurizer to plop my curls back up in the morning.
