Could Time Banking Replace Your Wallet?

On my journey to become completely goddess-like a friend of mine shared with me the concept of Time banking. I was like oooookkk what is that exactly? Does that involve me saving time by doing something faster? Is it similar to flex time at work?

Neither. Time banking is the genius of Dr. Edgar Cahn, which involves using time and talent as currency replacing the one thing that stresses some of us out- those dolla dolla bills.

The way it works is that one person; let’s say they are a painter, needs their car fixed. On the other side of town a mechanic so happens to need his kitchen and bathroom painted. If both parties agree to the exchange, they are paid in services.

Time banking creates win- win situations, utilizes talent, helps save money and builds community. I love the smell of crisp dollar bills, but I love the security of knowing that I have someone who appreciates my talent is and is willing to help me in return.

Many communities in the old world used bartering systems, native Indians were the G’s of trade or so our history books suggest. I’m sure before modern civilization our ancestors were expert barterers.

I’m not a financial wiz nor do I come from a finance background but I love saving money, as well as giving and receiving help when needed.

I want to try something new on the blog.

We’re in a recession right? We all have goals and dreams right?

G.I Challenge: Let’s say you are in a position where you have to survive off of half your current income due to an unexpected layoff. You are considering going into business for yourself or you are guaranteed your position again in 6 months.

Without seriously downgrading your current lifestyle what skills/services would you be in need of? Ex. Doctor, babysitting, mechanic, accountant, website (if you want to plan new business). What services/skills would you be willing to offer in exchange for those?

Keep it clean now. I know hoeing is an option but damn!

I’ll go first..check the comments.
