One day my girlfriend @misssupernerd and I had a random girls day about the town that ended with us practicing new fellatio techniques on fresh carrots at the Thompson Hotel.
The event was called Ladies Night and we were learning the ins and outs of blowjobs via Dr. Jess, a Toronto-based sexologist (PhD), author and host of PlayBoy TV’s Swing.
I really thought I knew it all prior to attending the event. I never take workshops on sex seriously but I was pleasantly surprised. Techniques that involved manipulating breath, using two hands, playing with lube- the possibilities were endless.
Feeling charged and empowered I quickly purchased a copy of Hot Sex Tips, Tricks and Licks and immediately began plotting my next sexploration quest. I also HAD to find out more about the journey of Dr.Jess that led from her teaching in Toronto classrooms to becoming an internationally sought after speaker and television personality.
G.I: For Goddess Intellect readers who are new to the world of Dr. Jess please tell us about yourself and why you chose a career as a sexologist?
Dr.J: I was a high school teacher and observed that our sex education curriculum and training could use some improvement, so I went back to school to study sex education. I never expected that I’d end up working in television and publishing, but I’m grateful to have such an exciting and meaningful job. I still work with teachers and students and seize any opportunity to be back in the classroom.
G.I: What separates your brand new book, Hot Sex Tips, Trick and Licks: Sizzling Touch and Tongue Techniques for Amazing Orgasms from others on sexuality?
Dr.J: Hot Sex Tips, Tricks and Licks gets very specific. The techniques are broken down move by move and the photos and illustrations (for which I take no credit) make it easy on the eyes. It is packed with oral and finger techniques that I’ve collected while travelling and learning from thousands of sexually satisfied couples.
G.I: What advice can you give to those who currently have partners that refuse to perform oral sex?
Dr.J: I’d never suggest that anyone do anything that makes them feel uncomfortable, but if your partner is open to becoming more comfortable with oral, I have a few suggestions:
Mix it up. Start with your hands and gradually work your lips and tongue into the equation to develop greater comfort with the new tastes and sensations.
Offer up lots of praise. Rather than framing your desire for oral as a complaint or deficit, emphasize how great it feels for you. Make sure your movements; sounds and facial expressions reflect your enjoyment.
Normalize. If you’re a woman whose male partner is reticent to go down on you, remind him that oral sex is not only common, but far more likely to result in orgasm than intercourse.
Try it in the shower!
Experiment with lightly flavoured lubes.
G.I: Name your favorite techniques from Hot Sex Tips, Trick and Licks?
Like a prayer: Use lots of lube and firm pressure as you slide your hands up and down his shaft in prayer position.
The Tube of Love: Roll or pinch your tongue into a tube as you slide it in and out of your lovely lady.
G.I: What can we expect next from Dr. Jess?
Dr.J: The Little Book of Kink and The Oral Sex Deck (a deck of oversized cards) are slated for release next month! And my biggest book project, The New Sex Bible will be on in early 2014. I’m hoping to take a break from writing and am currently working on a television project about sex and dating for people living with disabilities. And since my passion is speaking and education, I’ll still be travelling the globe to deliver keynotes, workshops and training sessions. Upcoming stops include Mexico, Jamaica, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Montreal and the UK.
