Last week while we were still in 2012 I came across a video clip that solidified to me that right then and there that the last days were drawing near. I wanted to stock pile canned goods, build a bomb shelter in the forest behind my apartment and other types of neurotic shit but I kept calm and slept on it. While other bloggers and internet discussion starters wept through Facebook comments and belligerent tweets I remained calm, maybe more like a calm denial. 2013 was only days away and I wanted to make sure that I had that video clip out of my system, because it simply could not be real life.

Now, I am aware of how the world once ran back in biblical times. There were a bushel of wives for every man, there are communities in Africa and globally that are polygamous- cool. I even know that the whole baby mother thing was one of those neat cultural gifts picked up from slavery..I get it. But, this right here is some next level bullshit.

It’s not the lifestyle that bothers me. I mean if you’re involved in a relationship of this type then I’m assuming it’s consensual. You must not mind giving up your husband or boyfriend or baby daddy on occasion, sharing can be caring. I see both sides but this takes the cake.

None of the women are married, Mr. Shawty Lo has trouble remembering his children’s names and these women are so obviously about the money, not to mention they are all jealous types. This makes me sick. When his crunktified checks run out these women will become more of a nightmare than they were in this pilot episode.

This show did more to me mentally than I assumed. It made me abhor the title of baby mother and detest the whole unwed mother lifestyle completely. I DON’T WANT IT! I know so many single mothers who are busting their butts everyday to provide for their children, they don’t have a life or even have a desire to have one outside of raising their child. They are secretly judged by society despite their good hearts and intentions. I know we shouldn’t care about what others think but when I’m a parent I will care about what others think times two- It’s not going to be about me anymore.

It’s expensive to raise children but when will this madness, this money thirst die within our community? It’s just spawning another generation of assholes, individuals who respond to the dollar better than they respond to human connection.

I haven’t had cable for a minute and I don’t think I’ll ever get it back.

Shoutout to my single parent friends who are doing the damn thing, I came from a single parent home and although I wish things were different I’m forever grateful that I was brought up with a strong sense of self and unconditional love. But for those of us who have yet to go on the parenthood journey can we try our best to make sure we bring children into this world with parents who love them and each other?

    Honestly I do think that a single parent situation, be it mom or dad does create an environment where the child is lacking something, Clearly folk overcome that everyday but there is a missing component there.

    I don’t like the term baby mother, never have and its only getting worse as media plays on it for cheap laughs and ratings while society continues to make very irresponsible decisions in regards to having children.

    Good idea, but the post alone sadly gives this show press. So with that said they did a good job and those checks are being cut. Not if we really want to do something about it. Stop watching these type of things and talking about them and sharing links. Those are the things that marketing folk can quantify and say chaos sells.

      I agree they def did a great job of generating press and yes I am helping spread news of the chaos by posting the video however I don’t feel bad about it and let me tell you why. I believe that we’re not having the type of conversations in our communities where we talk about child rearing, raising families & self-worth. We know how to make babies, and get the girl/guy but we have no clue to how to keep them, love them and cherish them. The whole thing about human connection is major and I fear that this generation is close to missing the boat. I use the video clip as a conversation starter more so than to promote the show. If anyone person decided to watch the show after reading this that is their decision, so long as they read my message I’m straight. I can’t change anyone I can only do what is possible to change the world in my own way.
