A couple weeks ago for one of the first times in years over dinner with one of my cousins we had less than a five minute conversation about men. Yes admittedly most of our times is spent talking about the men in our lives and we support each other throughout whatever joys or pain but this time was different. Can I be real for a minute though? I’m far from where I need to be relationship wise, because I stay developing the relationship with myself and as discouraging as that can be at times I’ve learned to hold my head up and stay strong within myself, but back to our nouveau conversation…
For the first time maybe ever we spoke about our strategies for achieving home ownership. For the past few years I’ve watched friends celebrate the day they closed the deal and move into their new homes while I stay spitting excuses, ‘my time is coming’. I have somewhat of a fund going, but the same lackluster I’ve been feeling has directly affected my investment potential. I’m afraid of money and my own power to make it.
Historically any affirmation I’ve put on the blog I find I’m bound to, so I am officially declaring my journey to homeownership today. It’s no secret, well at least now it’s not, home ownership is the key to financial freedom.Single women are leading the pack in new home owners and I honestly don’t see this trend dying anytime soon. Sooo I’m jumping on the bandwagon folks.
I’ve taken advantage of my works’ amazing retirement savings plan program and went with one of the more risky plans to purposely scare the crap out of me, with the plan to increase my contribution after any income increases. I’m also planning to scale back in other ways, but the idea of money leaving before I get a chance to see it, works for now.
I may not be able to plan my love life, and my life thus far has been far from traditional- But I strive for a better life nonetheless.

I’ve thought of it but truthfully living in NY and one of the most expensive counties at that makes it a hard goal to reach. basic townhouses are like 350K and up. I’ma make it happen though.
I think about it also, but I know I have to make the money I want to pay my bills and save at the same time, which had been hard these days.
But I want to own a home in the country.
I started saving for a house at 18, I did so by starting a retirement savings plan. I’ve been contributing a few hundred dollars every month. That’s a really great way to save for a house. It also helps if you can get a roommate or stay at home. Less rent.
I want to wait until I’ve found a job that I’m comfortable with and it’s so much easier having a husband who can contribute. I’m just kind of chicken to do it alone, plus land tax is a bitch. I’m also scared that when something major breaks, I have to replace it. Lol.
I think more Black folks should own real estate though. It’s important to own more than flashy cars and jewelry.
Oh yea, I have been thinking about it. My husband and I are saving up for a home. Since we live in NYC we know it’s not going to happen here (but maybe around the city). We know it’s going to happen in time, so we just keep our heads low and take it one day at a time.
